FINAL u14 2014

Multyfarnham          1-11
Shannon Gaels         4-08
The Under 14 team lost out to Shannon Gaels in a pulsating County Final in Ballynacargy last Sunday morning. The lads went out and played out of their skins and were an absolute credit to themselves, their families and their coaches. Not one player ever stopped or gave up. They kept going in driving rain and strong winds, to put on a display which heartened all the supporters who travelled from Multyfarnham.
The game was played out in a good spirit and all that is positive about football at this age group was on display. Shannon Gaels had the wind at their backs in the first half and predictably put up a high score. While Multy kept with them through some excellent running from Luke Nangle and Jack Moran, the ball just kept getting held up in the strong wind. Josh Lee was deputising in goals and he was proving a safe pair of hands. Aaron Whelan and Noel Bardon were in a real battle in midfield with their opponents but they were proving a match to them.
Laurence Monaghan, Eoghan Kelly and Fechin Brennan played a great game as a big powerful full back line, although there was not much they could while the Gaels took advantage of the wind and put up a good score going in at half.
The second half was a different affair and Multy tried vainly to get back into the game. Brendan McCarthy was proving to be a classy full forward by become the main source of points for Multy. Indeed he then managed to put the ball into the back of the net which heartened his teammates into reducing the gap between the two sides down to six points. This was good going as it had been twelve points. But as they say goals win matches and that is exactly what Shannon Gaels went about proving. They only managed two scores in the second half however both were three pointers which killed off the Multy revival. Andrew Hogan kicked some fine scores worthy of winning a game. Alan McDonnell and Jamie Coffey tried again and again to break down the Gaels defence but it was just not happening for Multy who will live to fight again next year.
Special thanks must go to Joe Kelly and Kevin Coffey for training the young lads and working hard with tem all year.
