The Under 14’s had a huge win last Saturday away to Garrycastle, recording a massive score against a team from a much bigger club than ours. All the lads performed brilliantly on the day and not one of them put a foot wrong. It was thought that this grade would be weakened with the departure of many of last years all conquering team to Under 16 level but, the current crop showed that maybe last year it was the young lads who were carrying the old. Their season continues this Saturday at 11.00am against Maryland Tang in Multy and any support for the boys would be greatly appreciated.
The Minors have a match this Sunday also at home against Shandonagh, the game is currently scheduled to kick off at 11.00am but that time is due to be confirmed. The Minors had a good outing the last day and are developing into a good bunch of players, but they will need to work very hard if they are to achieve any success on the field.
This year the “Registration Day” for the club will be on the 19th March in Multyfarnham at 11.00am. All players and parents are asked to be in attendance, any new players looking to join can sign on the day. If you wish to get in touch with anybody beforehand please contact any member of the committee or any of the mentors.
The Minors played Kilbeggan St Josephs on Sunday morning in Multyfarnham in their first outing of the year. Multyfarnham won the game 5-5 to 2-6 with Ciaran McCabe, Alan Casey and Darren Aughrey playing very well. Kibeggan though were missing a few of their better players and did have a few under 16’s filling their ranks. Whilst our lads in general did play well some of them were showing a certain rustiness when it came to passing, tactical awareness and technical ability, too many times we went for the wrong option which cost us. Overall team discipline was good even though the ref wouldn’t be adhered to Multy, in fact he gave some dreadful decisions against Kilbeggan but managed to give us 4 or 5 yellow cards for fouls that weren’t!
The Under Fourteens were unlucky against St Marys Rochfortbridge losing by three points in the end despite being a man short! The entire team all had good games. The lads are out again next Saturday away to Garrycastle details of which will be texted out. Adam Loughrey, Thomas McGivney and Stephen Sweeney were continuing their good run of form from the school games, these three boys are definitely future stars in the making.
Last Sunday’ (20th Feb) Minor match has been rescheduled for a later date. We are also scheduled to play Kilbeggan St Josephs next Sunday at home training continues this Friday at 6.30 and players wishing to do so may train with the Junior team on Wednesdays. The Under 14’s are at home this Saturday against St Mary’s in Multyfarnham at 2pm all players are asked to be down at the pitch at 1.15pm. The Under 16’s are training this Saturday at 11am. Registration day this year for under 8’s, 10’s and 12’s is March 19th.
